Hoka Bondi 8 vs Bondi 9: What Changed

Hoka calls the Bondi “the ultra-cushioned game-changer” and says the Bondi 9 “delivers peak plushness for everyday miles”. The 9 is the newer of the two, so if you came here looking for a Bondi 8, this is what changed.

A quick note before the numbers: ATHLO+ doesn’t sell running shoes. Every figure here comes from Hoka’s own product pages, which we list at the bottom, not from our own testing.

On Hoka’s figures, the Bondi 9 is 8 g lighter than the 8, sits on a new supercritical foam and has 2 mm more stack. The heel drop stays at 5 mm.

Side by side

Shoe Weight Heel-to-toe drop Midsole foam (Hoka’s name)
Hoka Bondi 8 10.80 oz (306 g) 5 mm “Lightweight, resilient foam”
Hoka Bondi 9 (current) 10.50 oz (298 g) 5 mm Supercritical EVA

You won’t find a stack height here. Hoka doesn’t publish one on these product pages, and we’d rather leave it out than borrow a number from somewhere else. Hoka quotes weight in ounces, so we’ve converted to grams and rounded. Brands weigh a single sample size, so your pair will come out a little different.

Bondi 8 to Bondi 9

Hoka leads with the foam. It says it “upgraded underfoot cushioning with super critical foam”, where the Bondi 8 lists a “lightweight, resilient foam”. Hoka also “added 2mm in stack height”, though it doesn’t publish the stack figure itself.

Up top, there’s a knit upper “for a more accommodating fit” and a retooled, 3D-molded collar. Hoka lists the 9 at 10.50 oz (298 g), 8 g lighter than the 8’s 10.80 oz (306 g), and the drop is still 5 mm.

Coming from a Bondi 7? Hoka says the Bondi 8 was “upgraded with an extended heel, brand-new foam, and pillowed tongue”.

Where these figures come from

We read these from Hoka’s own product pages on 17 Oct 2026. A few links go to copies saved by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, so you can still check them after a brand takes a page down. This is a spec comparison, not a review: we haven’t tested these shoes and we’re not ranking them. If the ATHLO+ Shoe Lab shows a different figure, this page is the one taken straight from the brand.
