Hoka Clifton 9 vs 10 vs 11: What Changed

Hoka sums up the Clifton as “light and plush for everyday miles” and calls it “the keystone of our cushioned styles”. If you’re searching for the Clifton 9, it’s worth knowing that it’s now two versions old: the Clifton 11 is the newest.

A quick note before the numbers: ATHLO+ doesn’t sell running shoes. Every figure here comes from Hoka’s own product pages, which we list at the bottom, not from our own testing.

The change Hoka put front and centre came with the Clifton 10, when the heel drop went from 5 mm to 8 mm. Hoka’s listed weight has also crept up with each version, from 8.70 oz (247 g) on the 9 to 9.97 oz (283 g) on the 11.

Side by side

Shoe Weight Heel-to-toe drop Midsole foam (Hoka’s name)
Hoka Clifton 9 8.70 oz (247 g) 5 mm Compression-moulded EVA
Hoka Clifton 10 9.80 oz (278 g) 8 mm Compression-moulded EVA (“CMEVA”)
Hoka Clifton 11 (current) 9.97 oz (283 g) 8 mm Compression-moulded EVA

You won’t find a stack height here. Hoka doesn’t publish one on these product pages, and we’d rather leave it out than borrow a number from somewhere else. Hoka quotes weight in ounces, so we’ve converted to grams and rounded. Brands weigh a single sample size, so your pair will come out a little different.

Clifton 9 to Clifton 10

Hoka describes the Clifton 10 as having “an additional 3mm in heel-to-toe drop”, which takes it from 5 mm to 8 mm. Up top there’s a jacquard knit upper with a double-lace lock, which Hoka says helps keep the tongue in place. Hoka also says it refined the heel, the underfoot transition and the forefoot fit, and fine-tuned the midsole geometry.

The foam underneath is still compression-moulded EVA (Hoka calls it “compression molded EVA foam” on the 9 and “CMEVA” on the 10). On Hoka’s figures the 10 is heavier, though: 9.80 oz (278 g) against 8.70 oz (247 g), about 31 g more.

Clifton 10 to Clifton 11

This one is mostly about the upper. Hoka calls it a “new upper refresh”, with an engineered mesh upper and a softer sockliner. The drop stays at 8 mm and the midsole is still compression-moulded EVA. Hoka lists the 11 at 9.97 oz (283 g), about 5 g more than the 10.

Coming from a Clifton 8? Hoka says the 9 added 3 mm of stack height and came out “4 grams” lighter.

Where these figures come from

We read these from Hoka’s own product pages on 17 Oct 2026. A few links go to copies saved by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, so you can still check them after a brand takes a page down. This is a spec comparison, not a review: we haven’t tested these shoes and we’re not ranking them. If the ATHLO+ Shoe Lab shows a different figure, this page is the one taken straight from the brand.
